Since 3.3, I have not been able to enter a city and see trade chat without the issue of the DE option coming up. One of the more-well known players on our server has taken to griping constantly (honestly, I don't think he's left Dalaran, not even to do an instance, since Tuesday) about how the new DE option is going to put a huge dent in the income of Enchanters, since they won't get paid to DE stuff at the end of an instance anymore.

Personally, I have never run with an enchanter who asked for payment for their services at the end of an instance/raid. We've always just rolled, highest bidder gets abyss, etc etc. I thought that the majority of DE's money came from items that they acquired personally, DE'd, and sold or enchanting items, whether it be gear or scrolls. I never though that getting paid to DE something was a huge such of income, given that most people are in guilds where one player is an enchanter.

How do all of you enchanters out there feel about it? I know it made our guild's enchanters happy, since we don't stand around at the end anymore but just get our shards as we go. Is it really a source of contention, or is he overreacting?

This is all asked with an open mind and no sarcasm, just interested to see how 3.3 has changed a profession, a topic I didn't see discussed in the master post or elsewhere yet.

Guild Rec. : Garrosh

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 5:03 PM
Hello all, you have been very helpful to me before so I decided to ask another question.

Right now I'm a lvl 37 Blood Elf Warlock putting all my points into demonology and I'm really looking for a laid back guild. I'm new to the game, so there may be a few things I don't know that well.

Basically, I'm looking for a laid-back guild full of people who are willing to help each other. I'm on Garrosh, and honestly, I feel like I play the entire game by myself. I've been in a couple other guilds before but didn't really fit well. Either it's a bunch of kids spamming, or people who only want to talk to people who are interested in what they're interested in (certain music, politics, etc).

Any help would be appreciated!

365 Days Of Exercise

This guy isn't trying to sell anything. He was just out of shape and decided he would eat healthy and workout and monitor his progress by taking a picture once a day for a year.

It's pretty crazy seeing radical change in the first 2 - 3 months.

Mac and vent

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 12:28 PM
My sister just started playing... I'm on a PC she's on a Mac (and the last time I used a Mac was... well... a LONG time ago in school). She's able to connect to my vent server and can speak, and hear and no problems... except... if WoW is the active window her push-to-talk doesn't work. She has to play in windowed mode and click on the vent window before using her button to speak.

Any ideas on how we can fix this?

Thanks ladies!

Yes, I'm still here. Really.

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 11:18 AM
It's been a year since my last public post. Like so many others, I am spending time in other online social venues. If you are reading this, you may wonder how much I post that isn't public. The truth: Not nearly as much as I used to.

Work:
I work two jobs (at least). I'm still a sommelier working for a well known restaurant in Seattle. I still own a business which has one employee: me. My freelance work through my own company has gone through a rather major slump in the past two years. So much so that I was very seriously considering shutting it down until early fall this year when I landed another contract. And, well, that contract is keeping me very busy indeed!

Social:
I'm fortunate to live with my best friend (also my husband) and right next door to some really good friends. This helps me have a little social life even when working six days a week, like now. I have a pretty close knit group of good friends who like to drink good wine and eat good food. We manage to get together about once a month. And I have a fairly large network of friends and acquaintances here in Seattle I don't get to see in person nearly often enough.

Travel:
This year, the travel budget has mostly gone to getting me places to celebrate major events in the lives of family members: major birthdays for my parents and my husband's first marathon have taken me to Ohio and to New York.

A nesting year:
Thanks in part to the financial crisis and in part to continuing to work a hospitality job, I'm more of a "nester" than I once was. I still go out on occasion, not that I was ever much of a barfly. I used to go out to movies and concerts more. I definitely have had periods of trying to squeeze in appearances to three parties on the same night on an ongoing basis. For me, I've found that's only really fun when it happens once in a while instead of as a matter of course.

The future?
I've got plans. I even have predictions and desires. I'll only say with a modicum of certainty that I hope to be a bit more social in 2010 than I was in 2008-09. Perhaps I'll see more movies and concerts. Maybe I'll manage to get to more art openings and a party or two. Oh, and if I post about anything dramatic or deep, it's still likely to be a Friends Only post. So, yes, even though it may look like I've disappeared, I'm still around these LiveJournal parts on occasion.

Guild signatures on Argent Dawn (US)

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 1:09 PM
Server: Argent Dawn (US)
Faction: Horde
Guild Name: <Eve Stole My Setlist> (we're Glee fans)
Purpose of guild: Horde alt guild to park ourselves so we don't feel naked
Who to whisper: Coila
Where: Undead starting zone
Compensation: Lots of love and hugs from a person who keeps getting kicked from Horde guilds because she's got Ally mains or she's not as active as they'd like. :(

(x-posted to both lj comms, worldofwarcraft and wow_ladies. Apologies if you see this twice.)

Thanks to: Siggia, Omgsigs, Sadai (and other random people on Argent Dawn, horde-side!) Time for me to go level!

RPing "the gay".

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 1:21 PM
(Question brought on by http://community.livejournal.com/wow_ladies/11985607.html)

I'm curious about the different reasons people have for playing lesbians. Does it match your personal orientation? Do you want to avoid the drooling "hey wanna cyber" fanboys? Do you think it's an interesting aspect to add to a character?

(I can think of four people I know who are in RL same sex relationships, a couple who don't want to deal with the fanboys, and one guy who flat out admits he just likes the "hot girl-on-girl action.")

New patch rant

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 6:07 PM
Does anyone else think this new patch is making things too easy?
I started my Draenei Paladin again in an RP realm (because I got sick of the n00bs on the normal realm), so I was doing the early quests again... and they've made most of the enemys not aggro... the lashers dont aggro, the mutated owlkin dont aggro... WTF!?

I dunno how I feel about the new map & quest helper. I mean, it's easier than popping over to http://wow.allakhazam.com/ every so often and checking coords... but this is almost like they're taking us by the hand and leading us through the game.

IDK, it just irks me that they're treating us like morons now.

EDIT: Seems I'm over reacting... I suppose I'll get used to it. :P

What happened to the "boys are stupid" tag?

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 6:49 PM
Anyway.

I recently had a really failtastic roleplay experience. I met a very speshul snowflaek.

So, I've never really roleplayed much in World of Warcraft, but I've wanted to for ages. I used to do a lot of chat and forum-based text roleplay, and really miss it. I play on a roleplay server, so there are plenty of opportunities, I'm sure. I just haven't seen them yet. >_>

Anyway. New guy in guild asks if anybody in the guild would like to roleplay. I decide that what they hey, let's give it a go.

Go on, you know you want to know what wtf-ery lies ahead. )

Soon after, he was kicked from the guild, because several days in a row he had behaved very very inappropriately in guild chat, and nobody liked him.

He had received a lot of warnings, but kept going anyway. The final straw was when he started ranting about how beast mastery hunters are pathetic. When several people, me included, told him that that was kind of inappropriate and that anyway, a lot of us play to have fun, not to be the Best DPS Evar, and that I pick pets I enjoy to look at and play with, and don't really care that they're not the best for DPS. He kept ranting on about how pathetic we all were.
And then when he got kicked, he whispered me and told me that our guild leader is a bitch.

Uh huh. Welcome to my ignore list.

LFG random heroic question

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 12:41 PM
I'm not sure if I'm having a brain fart about this, or what ... But let's say I spend the day doing some random LFG heroics. Let's also say that I run quite a few instances, including Forge of Souls -- and then later that night, I log in and some friends want to run Forge of Souls.

Since I ran it earlier in the day via the random LFG tool, am I locked out completely, so that I can't then run it with my friends?

I can't seem to wrap my head around the question regarding this in the FAQ. Halp me out!

Mob pathing issues?

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 12:26 PM
Has anyone else noticed that the pathing seems reeeeally screwed up? They seem to jump behind you for no apparent reason and it's really hard to keep all of them in front of my poor DK tank. A bunch of other guildies noticed it too.

I was wondering if it was just our server or a widespread issue. And how on earth are we supposed to deal with it? Tanking was kind of a nightmare; I was dropping *fast* because I couldn't block/dodge/parry stuff that came from behind me.

They are smarter than you think

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Subtitle: A Cautionary Tale for Parents who Play WoW.

My almost 5 year daughter old loves to borrow my abandoned level 30 paladin and ride around Stormwind and sometimes go out to the forest and smite the low level baddies who live there. She also likes to sit on a lap and direct where and what to smack down if hubby or I are playing one of our mains. She knows their mounts can fly. She knows the key to press to get the horsies (ground mounts) out. So: Fast forward to this past weekend. Her older brother and I are going to go set up the Christmas tree. I'd been knocking out a few quests on my latest project, my newly 70 warlock, and had left her standing in Dalaran. Little girl said she'd rather play on my character then help assemble the tree. She asked if she could run around on the warlock instead of the paladin, so I said sure (how much trouble can she get into in Dalaran?), and off big brother and I went to do tree work.

More? )

Ice Crown Citadel: An Adventure

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 11:09 AM
I hit up ICC with four guildies last night, and we had a lot of fun. I felt the need to share our experiences with you all, so I wrote it up and posted it on my wow blog. Be warned - it is lengthy, but it was funny, and it includes a lot of the hysterical dialogue that went on.

Enjoy!

Warning: There are a few spoilers.
You're on notice, Arthas!

New Mac Video settings?

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 7:42 AM
I play on a macbook and when I was leveling my lowbie priest last night I felt like WoW looked higher contrast (more difference between lights and darks), fuzzier, and, um, pinker? I thought I remembered seeing something about new mac video something or other in the patch notes, but I am too tech-illiterate to understand what it said. I was wondering if someone could confirm/explain this change so I don't have to worry.

Resource Sites, please?

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Hello,
I have been a lurker (reading everything posted pretty much) and saw how knowledgeable you wonderful ladies (and gents) are. So I thought I would post a question (since I see you are all awesomely informed!).

1. I have 2 characters I figure will be my next 80's. One is a mage (after going thru the mage links I saw the empowered fire site and have been reading that and will probably head to EJ as well), however the one I have a question about is my DK. Do y'all have some good resource sites for DK's (mostly leveling, gear, geming and beginning raid info... She's only 75 right now but it's time for me to start looking to her future. She's blood tank spec currently)?

2. My baby toons (a priest and druid and lock) are languishing due to being in boring levels. Are there any guides that would assist with leveling? And are there fun addons to make solo quest grinding fun? Like Alamo for druids (I will randomly pop out of bear form just to see the comments, when alone).

Thanks for any and all insight. I love leveling alts when I am not raiding, and since I am between guilds with my 80's I wanted to play my fun leveling characters. ...... and now back to your regularly scheduled LJing...

*also hope I tagged this correctly...

**Edit I found some DK stuff, however still interested in the #2 question. Dk Stuffs found on http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/26318 **

Tech question

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 8:20 AM
I have two computers I play WoW on. One of which I lovingly refer to as the Frankenputer. It seemed to have taken the patch and will let me get just as far as the screen where you hit PLAY (loader screen?). But then nothing happens. I tried the Repair WoW thingy and got the message that WoW was seriously damaged and could not be repaired.

Ok, I guess the solution is to do the uninstall/reinstall two-step. But, and here's where it gets complicated, the hard drive is almost maxed out. I was thinking of putting in a second HD and then installing WoW there. That way, it'd have it's very own hard drive with all sorts of space to stretch and grow and wouldn't have to share with anything else.

And now for the question. If I install WoW on the new drive, will it interfere with patches, downloads and any other technical type thing I haven't thought of? Do those patches just search for any drive that might have WoW installed or do they just look for anything on the "C" drive? For those of you tech savvy folks out there who might have gone this way, what are your experiences?

Thanks bunches in advance!

Authenticator Question

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 3:58 AM
I'm thinking about buying my boyfriend and myself authenticators. I noticed on the Blizz store that you can buy two. Can I go ahead and just buy them through mine or do they come pre-setup to your account?

Carbonite Question

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 11:56 PM
Uhh..I feel dumb for asking this I guess but does anyone know if theres a way to change the color of the text used for quests? When I popped open my quest book for my mage..it was yellow on a yellow background. Ow.
