Penance

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 10:38 PM
penance

/ˈpɛnəns/
–noun
1. a punishment undergone in token of penitence for sin.

Most of the time, I love to PVP on my disc priest. Keeping up multiple allies with Penance and Power Word: Shield while I dot and smite rogues to death is an adrenaline rush that can't be found elsewhere in the game. The disc priest hits almost as hard as she heals, and really rewards a player with quick reflexes.

There are other days though when PVPing in battlegrounds as a healer feels like I must be being punished for doing something awful in a past life. Really, truly awful. Kicking kittens awful.

Rant continues here! )
Some of you might remember me posting a few weeks ago QQing about my guld. Most of you probably don't. Either way, I ended up hauling my hunter ass out, and recently joined a new raiding guild. Within 3 days, I had "proven myself" enough to be hauled into their 10m progression group. Two days later, and 2 guild firsts later also (take that faction champs and twins!), we are on Anub in 10m TOGC. We had 42 attempts left, going into the fight. We now have I believe 28 attempts left, after tonight's progression. We are now very, very good at kiting spikes. Other than that... we're messing up a lot. But at least we don't suck at spikes now, right?! :D /optimism

I cannot get over how much I love my new guild, basically.

What awesome things have your guildies done for you lately? :) Besides initiating me almost immediately into the 10m group of awesome, making me feel COMPLETELY at home and being social and awesome... my guildies went out of their way THREE TIMES today alone to help me:

I started the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest chain finally (screw you, rep grind to neutral!) and seriously, they have been win. They showed up to help me kill the raid boss dude in Duskwood. They showed up in Moonglade when I had to do the follow-up quest to defend the town from shades. They showed up AGAIN when Dr. Weavil was mind controlling me at 30% and making me kill my pet and lose all aggro. And a couple of 'em are ALREADY organizing a guild run of BWL to get me the elementium ore I need later on in the quest chain. :D

Guild love. Show me it. Tell me about it. ♥

also, I am 97 quests from Loremaster. Getting sooo close, I can feel it!!!

Pink Moonkin, all finished

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 12:07 AM
Pink Moonkin is all done and ready to go to his/her new home, but I have no idea what part of the world he'll end up in. Remember, the only way to get a chance to own this guy is to enter the raffle over at Raid for the Cure.

I'm a 20-something IT professional, and I WoW.

I'm also a writer, sometimes by profession, always by nature. Lately I've been finding myself wishing I could post about WoW on my blog without boring my non-WoW playing friends to death. Obviously a new blog was called for - and finding the WoW Ladies community on LJ brought me here.

I play Alliance on the Frostwolf-PVP realm, and I am a member of a New Zealand focused guild, World Famous. I'm a serious alt-a-holic, with 5 characters over 60. I'm an actual girl, rather than just playing one on the internet. I'm PVP focused, although I do have a healer who sometimes runs in my guild's main progression.

A Saturday

Today, I went out and bought some clothes.

Then we came back home and watched some terrible movies. Escape 2000 (Turkey Shoot), Slithis (Spawn of Slithis), Slaughterhouse Rock, and The Terrornauts. My comments on them are over here. Sometimes you watch an unknown movie and it's an amazing unknown classic. This was not one of those times.

Grabbing mobs as a tank

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 8:52 PM
So, in preparatation for Cata I've been levelling my druid (who will become a troll). I love tanking a lot, but... I'm not very good at it. So I come to you ladies for help.
I have no issues with health even though my gear is somewhat sub-par for a 38.
My main issue is grabbing mobs when I lose aggro on them. I can't find them to growl them, and when I do find them I can't target them among all the players attacking them.
Does anyone know a good addon or ingame fix for this type of issue? Thanks.

Horrific end result of the Horde's raid on Stormwind today )

Since discovering my true love, pvp, I've been stuck with 3 out of 4 on my For the Alliance achievement for what feels like forever. Org is just so incredibly difficult! At least it seems so at the moment. The ones I have done though were a ton of fun. Even when about 50 people showed up and trounced us when Thrall was at 20% hp, it was a blast. So let's talk about world pvp and getting our war bears. Do you love it? Hate it? End up vaguely amused when you walk into the capital only to find it strewn with skeletons everywhere?

*I actually completely missed the whole thing, teled to Stormwind to use the auction house, went to the wintergrasp guy and woah skeletons all over, goddamnit I miss all the fun stuff around here

BG fail

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 5:27 PM
Did they change something with report AFK in battlegrounds? I'm so confused, right before my group capped IBT and went all in, all of a sudden, I was transported back to Shattrath and now I'm flagged as a deserter.

I wasn't afk, in fact, I was running past Galv's bunker when it happened. Ironic, since earlier I was hanging out at Stonehearth Bunker, honor/xp farming while working on my nano novel (I'm a lvl 60 in AV, I never manage to get past Belinda, so usually I end up hanging around waiting for the horde to show up so I can toss my baby heals on people....so I play windowed with my novel in front, watching for action on the screen, and actively PvP when there is stuff to heal) and didn't get reported.

So, is it a certain amount of people reporting you, or can the BG leader just do it by default? I know a guildmate of mine watched the entire Horde team disappear mid-fight in a WSG.

I'm confused.

*edit* so I went to Trade (i know, i know, Trade lolerskates on a teeheetricycle), and apparently there are two ways to get booted from BGs

1. Get reported AFK and do nothing PvPish for one minute
2. Have 6 or more people report you AFK

I guess I could have not done anything for one minute, but it seems highly unlikely...a guildmate suggested people were reporting me afk since I'm a low level just to get me booted. But the BG was almost over, it makes no sense.

Quick question for rogues

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 2:51 PM
I can't seem to figure out how  to use my crossbow with my rogue. I have trained in xbows and would like keep the one I have equipped the one I have for stats. I would also like to use it to pull with but clicking on the bow, keybinding it, opening up the character pane does nothing.

I've tried Google and no luck there. I have two hunters so I get the main idea.
Am I missing something?

Tribute to Mad Skill.. and beer!

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 12:59 PM
25ToGC is the only thing my guild is still progressing on achievement-wise (need Insanity) but last tuesday we got Mad Skill.. while our raid leader was really really drunk. XD

Most of us know our leader (Garrosh) is pretty no-nonsense about getting through boss fights as efficiently and trouble-free as possible, so it was pretty great to see him running around drunk as hell through ToGC. XD The best part is we ALMOST got Insanity that night (got Anub to 8% before the tank died with 50 attempts left jksaflafhs).

Some of us were so amused we decided to record our raid. Sadly he mostly sobered up by Twins but it's still kinda funny. You can find our 25ToGC NRB, Jaraxxas, Twins, and Anub'arak kills from that night on youtube. For reference, I'm the big fat moondumbkin (who likes to stand in fire oops lol) and the only girl in vent lololol.

Beast Mastery PvE Hunter Guide

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 12:03 PM
I just updated my BM guide to patches 3.2.0 and 3.2.2 along with some cleaned up sections, updated to epic gems, and clarification. I edited the past post instead of making a new one so that links and bookmarks won't need to change, although there is a link to the 3.1 version at the bottom.

This guide includes information that is mostly centered around level 80 Beast Mastery raiding, however the Links, Addons, Enchants, Raid Supplies, Pet, Macros and Beginning Wrath Gear & Reps can apply for all specs for the most part and there are a few leveling (which BM is still arguably the best spec for) sections in Talents and Pets. I am a BM hunter and it is what I know best.

Second post today - I apologize. I need some real help this time though.

I noticed this first in the Grizzly Hills with the quest where you're supposed to use Budd to trap ice trolls, but gave up on it and moved on then. Now though, I find myself at the same problem with "That's abominable!" in Icecrown. When I summon the abomination (same as with Budd), there is no pet action bar in sight and I have no idea how to make it appear. Because of that, since I need to use the pet's skills to finish the quests, I can't do it. What am I doing wrong here?

Folders missing :(

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 11:50 AM
Hello my fellow gamers :)

A few days ago I had problems with my game and eventually unistalled it and then reinstalled it last night before i went to bed.  Now I found the Blizzard Entertainment folder and inside that is a regular WoW folder and then a WoW installation folder.  I've looked in both and it seems that I
am missing folders.

The only ones I see in the main WoW folder is Cache, Errors, Logs, Patches, and Updates and in the installer folder theres just a directx folder.  Before I had to unistalll it I thought I remembered there being more folders, and namely the one Ive been looking for, the interface folder for addons and such.  I've searched all the files on my computer but can't seem to find anything else related to Blizzard/WoW to help me find the missing folder/s.

Any ideas/help on what I should look up or do to fix this??

Thanks in advance!

Tips and Tricks

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 8:26 AM
So I posted a recruitment thread yesterday for an RP guild I'm in and a couple times now I've mentioned in the replies a post I made about how to get more involved in role-play. While the post is geared specifically toward my guild the hints still mostly apply to other RP guilds and servers, so... I figured, make a new thread and ask others: What are YOUR tips for getting more involved in RP?

Noob post.

Hello ladies!

I always wanted to play WoW but never had a computer capable of handling it (yeah, old school o_O) - but now I do!

I started off with a Blood Elf Warlock... which is at a level 26 right now. I have my succubus. My problem is I feel like it's taking me FOREVER to level. The quests I find are either super easy and offer a crappy amount of XP and the other ones are WAY too hard. For level 30 and such. My server is really...lonely...? I feel like I can NEVER find anyone to quest with (Garrosh).

So my question is, should I just give this girl a rest and start an alt like someone suggested? Something easier? Or is there a place I'm supposed to be questing that I just don't know yet. I don't really want to create an alt at the moment since I just got done doing all those silly, low level quests. ... And really, I wanna get to a level 80 :D

So, any help would be appreciated. If you know a good guild that's helpful with those like me I would also love to be directed. I haven't really done any battles or anything like that. I've basically been questing aimlessly. Haven't really done much with my professions either, since I need a little guidance.

Thank you so much!

Battlenet Payment Problem...

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 6:50 PM
Hey all,

I don't know if anyone here has had this problem before, but I thought that I would come and ask anyway.

Just recently I decided that I would come back and play WOW again. I quit back in late July, and by then I had already merged with Battlenet. Today I tried to set up a payment subscription with my credit card, and I got an "Unspecified Error"... Hmm, OK. So I try a few more times and I still get the same error. I then tried a different credit card, and I still got the same error.

I then returned to my Account Management page and see that my "License Information" says that my account is Frozen. Understandable considering I don't have a subscription set up... But right below it, it says that I have 1 Month Recurring in game time. That's weird. I also seem to have the option to "Cancel Subscription", even though I don't even have a subscription set up.

So I go ahead and click cancel subscription. I'm prompted to fill out a quick survey, why I'm cancelling, etc. I then hit confirm, and of course I'm forwarded to a page confirming that I canceled my subscription. I also then get an e-mail confirming that I canceled my subscription... And that my game time is valid until August 19th 2009. Uhh... Its November already! The "Cancel Subscription" option was still there... And I went through the process of canceling my nonexistent subscription about five times, each time with the same result.

Im not sure. I think its a glitch on the website or something. Trying to log into the game, it says that Ive run out of game time (yes). And my account is set to Frozen (yes). However I still have the option to cancel my subscription...? I guess for some reason Battlenet thinks that I have a payment set-up, which is why I can't set up a new subscription?

Im sorry if this doesnt make any sense... Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they got around it. Ive sent an e-mail off to Billing, but I doubt Ill get a response until next week. And even then I dont think its going to completely valid. I may have to call... Grrr...

NRB dowwwwwwwwn!

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 1:14 AM
So, after a bit of poking and prodding, my guild finally took a crack at TotGC10 this evening. :D Super fun! Gormok wasn't a problem, but we did run up against some issues with the worms, mostly due to positions during the burrowing/transition phase. But! We got them down. ^^ Took 20 attempts, but we did it on our first night of tries. Whoot! So happy!

Screenie here.

Just needed to squee. YAY HARDMODES!

Arms warrior gemming questions

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 11:52 PM
I have a few questions about Arms gemming that I hope you can help me with. I have an Armor Penetration rating of 440/31.44% without any ArP gems. I'm gemmed completely for Strength at the moment but I've been doing some reading and many people say to gem for Armor Pen over Strength if you have 30% ArP or above in your armor (not including ArP gems) - what do my fellow Arms warriors/other knowledgeable people think about this? Should I regem for ArP or stick with Strength? *confuzzled*

Also, is there a certain amount of crit I should be aiming for as Arms? I currently have 30.26% crit in Battle Stance. Do I need to gem for more?
